Lazy social weekend

Well so much for a long run yesterday.
After three late nights socialising, saturday night being a wine, cheese and black books marathon Sunday morning was not a friendly time to get up...infact I didn't...I got up with enough time to be on my way to Football park for the Crows v Eagles match. Well what a match, Eagles were up by 24 points going into the last quarter and even though the crows ran themselves stupid to get to the lead at the 20 min mark I had faith that the eagles would finish stronger and get over the line. And they did, much to the dissapointment of the crowd.
How did these football players get so fit, they are all completely muscle, just looking at their legs and there is nothing but muscle there.
Anyway, that was all the inspiration I needed to get back out on the pavement last night, completing a nice short 7k run around my usual route, in a 30sec PB no less. The last k leaving me questioning the whole reason I was running, why? what am I putting myself through? where are the Benifits?

well, I have to keep reminding myself, that if it were easy everyone could do it..it's worth working for...you know that.

The mere fact that you can run 7km is proof of the benifits. The others benifits will come.

Thanks for the comment on my blog mate. Yeah, even when I try to be brief it just doesn't work so why fight it!

During some stages last year I'd felt a bit wiped out and was struggling to want to go for a run. When that happened towards the end of the year I found that I was running way too hard and on easing back a bit I started feeling so much fresher at the end of a run rather than wanting to collapse, and was subsequently really keen to get out again the next day.

I figured that at the end of the day I'm better off doing a really slow run than nothing at all. Eventually the pace of these easy runs picked up as well and I soon got back into it again.

I'm no expert - that's just my recent experience... there's certainly heaps of motivation and advice on Cool Running to get you through a bit of a slump.

But of course once the cold/flu and the big weekend wears off you should be fine ;)

Looks like your half marathon's coming up sooner than mine. I'm just aiming to get through my first one relatively easily then maybe put a bit more into my 2nd one!

I couldn't say it much better myself.
You get all the benefits from slower runs and when your ready add an occasional speed session. You will actually still feel like running the next day or whenever. If has taken me 2 years to find this out, give it a try.
